IN-PERSON CAR INSPECTION — TERMS & CONDITIONS (Full Legal Version — United Kingdom)

1. Introduction
These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern all services provided by IN-PERSON Car Inspection (“we”, “us”, “the Company”) to the client (“you”).
By booking an inspection, submitting a request, or using any of our services, you confirm that you have read, understood and agreed to these Terms.
These Terms apply to all service packages, including:
  • Single Inspection
  • Expert for a Day
  • Full Selection (Complete Search & Inspection)
  • Hybrid/EV battery health check
  • Travel-based inspections (with mileage fees)
2. Scope of Services
We provide independent pre-purchase vehicle inspections and advisory services, including:
  • 2.1 Technical inspection (200+ points)Bodywork & paint
  • Wheels, tyres & brakes
  • Suspension & steering
  • Engine bay & fluids
  • Underside (visual only, without lifting the vehicle)
  • Diagnostics (OBD scanning)
  • Interior, electronics & functions
  • Test drive (if permitted and safe)
  • 2.2 Complete Search & Selection (Full Selection package)Market research and filtering of suitable listings
  • Contacting sellers
  • Preliminary online checks (MOT history, HPI, documentation review)
  • Up to three onsite inspections
  • Negotiations where appropriate
  • Final recommendation: Buy / Buy with repairs / Avoid
2.3 Hybrid & EV battery checksNon-invasive OBD reading using certified tools:
  • SOH (State of Health)
  • SOC (State of Charge)
  • Temperature data
  • HV battery DTCs
  • We do not dismantle or open HV systems.

3. Limitations of Inspection
Our inspection is visual and non-invasive, meaning we do not:
  • remove covers, panels or wheels
  • lift the car on a ramp
  • dismantle mechanical components
  • perform pressure or leak-down tests
  • guarantee the absence of hidden or intermittent faults
  • predict future failures
The report reflects only the condition observed at the time of inspection.
We are not liable for issues that cannot be detected visually or electronically.

4. Hybrid / EV Health Check Disclaimer
Hybrid and EV checks are limited to OBD data reported by the vehicle.
We do not open, remove or access high-voltage modules.
All readings (SOH, SOC, temperature ranges, voltage balance) represent the car’s self-reported data at inspection time, which may not reflect the true internal condition of the battery.
This process complies with HSE (UK) and manufacturer safety standards.

5. HPI & Documentation Disclaimer
We perform HPI and MOT checks using third-party services.
We are not responsible for:
  • errors or delays in third-party databases
  • incomplete or missing service history
  • hidden seller information
Our report is based on the documentation made available to us.

6. Test Drive Conditions
A road test is only performed if:
  • the seller gives explicit permission
  • the vehicle is road-legal (MOT, tax, insurance)
  • the environment is safe
  • weather and traffic conditions allow it
If any condition is unsafe, we reserve the right to decline the test drive.

7. Pricing & Payment Terms
Payment must be made:
  • prior to the inspection, or
  • onsite before the final report is released.
  • 7.1 Travel / Mileage Fee
  • Within 30 miles of Darlington → free
  • Beyond 30 miles → £0.70 per mile
  • 7.2 Pricing for Full Selection package
  • Minimum fee: £650
  • For vehicles priced over £20,000, an additional fee of 3% of the vehicle’s purchase price applies.
Example:
Vehicle price £22,000 → £22,000 × 3% = £660

8. Inspection Limits & Liability
8.1 No warranty
Our inspection is not a warranty, guarantee, insurance, or financial assurance.
8.2 Liability limitations
Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the service.
We are not responsible for:
  • mechanical failures occurring after the inspection
  • hidden defects not visible during a non-invasive check
  • intermittent faults not active at the time of inspection
  • future repair costs
  • depreciation or market fluctuations
  • issues caused by previous repairs or poor maintenance
  • undisclosed seller fraud

8.3 No liability for seller behaviour
We are not responsible if:
  • the seller misleads or hides information
  • the seller cancels, delays or changes the appointment
  • the vehicle is moved, unavailable or sold prior to inspection

9. Right to Remedy (Important)
Before raising a complaint or chargeback, you must give us:
  • written notice of the issue, and
  • reasonable opportunity to reassess the vehicle or documentation.
If you do not allow us to perform a re-inspection, any claim may be invalid.

10. Client Responsibilities
You must ensure:
  • the seller is informed and agrees to the inspection
  • the vehicle is accessible
  • the car is safe to inspect and drive
  • the location is not hazardous
  • keys, documents and fuel/charge are available
  • correct search criteria are provided in writing
Any major change of criteria may require an additional fee.

  • 11. Cancellation Policy
11.1 For Single Inspection
  • Cancel ≥ 24 hours → free
  • Cancel < 24 hours → 50% fee
  • If inspector already travelled → full fee applies (plus mileage)
11.2 For Full Selection package
Cancel before shortlist provided → no charge
  • Cancel after shortlist but before inspections → we retain 50%
  • Cancel after the first onsite inspection → you pay for completed inspections at the discounted sourcing rate
  • No refunds after purchase confirmation

12. Ownership of Reports
Inspection reports, photos and videos remain intellectual property of IN-PERSON Car Inspection.
Clients may use them only for personal purchasing decisions.
You may not:
  • publish the report publicly
  • share it with the seller for advertising purposes
  • post it online without permission
  • modify or misrepresent our findings
  • resell or distribute the report

13. Dispute Resolution
We aim to resolve all issues amicably.
If a dispute cannot be resolved internally, it will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

14. Data Protection & Privacy (GDPR)
We comply with:
  • UK GDPR
  • Data Protection Act 2018
We collect only the information necessary to:
  • process your booking
  • contact you
  • conduct the inspection
  • deliver the report
We do not sell or share data with third parties except for:
  • HPI checks
  • payment processors
  • essential service providers (where required)
You may request deletion or correction of your data at any time.

15. Updates to These Terms
We may update these Terms occasionally.
The latest version will always be published on our website.
Using our services after updates means you accept the revised Terms.

16. Acceptance
By booking an inspection, you acknowledge and agree to these Terms & Conditions.
